What's in YOUR cemetery? Ever wonder about the various kinds of headstones, statues, engravings, memorials in your cemetery? A walk thru Bayfield's cemetery will help acquaint you with this community as well as provide insight into your cemetery back home. The walks include Victorian to modern cemetery customs, the influence of the Civil War, insignia and motifs from the military and fraternal organizations and stories about some interesting local figures. Take Washington Avenue (Hwy. I) up the hill and turn into the cemetery on the left (west) side. Your guide will meet you in front of the Civil War monument at the cemetery. The monument looks like a small President Washington monument. The walk is about an hour and 20 minutes. |
